Detailed research for the inside cover (pamphlet)

We took inspiration from this inside cover on 2 Chainz’ album we liked how the candle seemed to illuminate the whole back cover, you can see how the simplicity adds an ominous atmosphere which matches what we are trying to create with our pamphlet. We decided upon candles because they sorrow and something fatal happening but now there is peace, its almost as if the male character has lit a candle in her memory and in prayer that one day he will be able to find peace and stop thinking about this mystery girl who is causing him to drink. This pamphlet has included parental advisory sign because the type of music 2 Chainz produces includes explicit content, this is conventional for a lot of R’n’B/Rap artists. We will be using this in our video because some people of a younger age may not be able to cope with the content in our music video. After looking at the previous research we did and getting some inspiration from it, we then went on to do some more specific research on typical features that would be found in inside covers.

planning/shooting

Even though the research we got inspiration from uses one candle, we felt that it would have more of a impact and meaning if we used three candles instead of one for our inside cover. The three candles are each representative of their own thing, one represents the male character, the second represents the female character, and the third represents the alcohol, this all links as these are the main three focal points of our video. We chose to picture candles at three different lengths so that when we made our back cover, it would create an impact without over-powering the inside cover as it would look spread out evenly.

Here is the first attempt at taking the images of the candles on a professional camera, the clarity and focus were too intense resulting in the images being ruined due to the fact that the camera tended to focus on the orange glow being produced by the background, these images were taken on flash which is also be what adds to the bad quality.

The second attempt was a lot more successful as it focuses on the candle without leaving an orange/blue tint like the seen in the first attempt. These photos create a better impact on the audience. The darkness surrounds the candles giving it an ominous looking effect.

Here is our chosen image, we felt that this image was the most intense looking image in terms of portraying the messages which we wanted it portray, the fact that the light illuminates the darkness creates quite a dramatic visual effect. The candles are also positioned directly in the middle, descending in size symmetrically also, making the image perfect.

I began by placing the image onto photo on to a square canvas on Photoshop which had a black solid fill.

To start with I placed the executive producers information on the bottom left side of the page but after adding the information about the record label to the bottom right hand side of the page, Myself and Cally felt it looked best on the top right hand side to keep the bottom from getting too crowded as we wanted a very simplistic looking image, similar to the one we took inspiration from.

I then added the parental advisory logo, first I added it to the top right hand corner of the inside cover, but after referring back to my research I realised that it was placed on the bottom left hand side of the inside cover, so I ended by transforming the image to the bottom left hand corner. The parental advisory was used as we feel that some people of younger ages may not be able to cope with the content of our video, this is conventional of a lot of rap music videos/albums.
